The Artist

Art that feels like home.

Bethanee at work in her home studio, applying a layer of hand-built texture to a large canvas In the Studio

I'm Bethanee, and I started Mica & Ivory at my own kitchen table, mixing texture mediums long before I ever called myself an artist. What kept me coming back was the process: building up layer after layer until a flat canvas started to catch light like something alive.

I work out of a home studio in New Hampshire, usually with music playing and paint somewhere it shouldn't be. Every piece is built entirely by hand, which means no two ever turn out exactly the same, and that's the part I love most.

When I'm not in the studio, I'm usually homeschooling or living life with my six children and husband, drinking an iced London Fog, or finding my next color palette somewhere completely unrelated to painting: hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the pillow section of any interior design store, or a conversation with a client about their home.

"I don't paint to fill a wall. I paint so a room finally feels like it belongs to the people living in it."
